The Chattanooga Area Veterans Council congratulates KEVIN WEST on his nomination to the Tennessee Radio Hall on Fame. West, a 40+ year professional broadcaster with stints in programming, as news director, assignment editor, anchor and talk show host, retired in October 2021 as Captain, Chief of Staff at Navy Public Affairs Support Element Headquarters.
You may recall that Captain West was scheduled to be the Keynote Speaker at the Wreaths Across Chattanooga event on Saturday, 18 December, 2021 when weather caused the program to be cancelled.
Take a look at his accomplishments in the broadcasting field!
His career began in radio in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1979 at WRCN; he moved to the Chattanooga area ten years later to work for WGOW-AM & WSKZ. West moved to WBDX-FM for a year in 1994 but made his way back to the family of stations in Chattanooga (WGOW-FM & AM, WSKZ, & WOGT) in 1995 where he remains today.
West's numerous awards include Best Radio Newscast, Tennessee Associated Press; Continuing News, Tennessee Associated Press; General Reporting, East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists; Investigative Reporting, Tennessee Associated Press, Region 11 of the Radio & Television News Directors’ Association; Feature Reporting, East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists; three Addy Awards from the Chattanooga Advertising Federation, Deep South Region of the American Advertising Federation and the American Advertising Federation.
Congratulations, Captain West!
